Beijing Economic & Technology Development Area
The Development Area enjoys state policies formulated specially for state-class economic and technological Development Areas and for state-class hi-tech industrial areas. It is designed to follow the new management system of the international standard. The Management Committee of the Development Area exercises unified leadership and management.
The first-phase construction project of the Development Area covers 15.8 km2 and the second-phase construction project occupies an area of 24 km2. The Development Area has completed construction of infrastructural facilities needed for enterprises and companies that enter the area, and features rational distribution.

The Development Area has completed construction of factory premises, materials transport center, bonded warehouses, a Development Area for those who have returned from abroad to launch businesses, and a scientific and technological enterprise Development Area, as well as supportive service organs such as customs, post office, telecommunication bureau, financial service, hospital and fire fighting organs, plus a sound dwelling quarters composed of residential buildings, hotels and stores.
The number of enterprises and companies that have entered the Development Area has surpassed 1,000 and their investment adds up to US$4 billion. Of these, more than 75% are foreign-funded enterprises whose investments average over US$10 million. They include 36 of Top 500 in the world and over 60 multinational companies. Major investors hail from 30-odd countries and regions including the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Israel, South Africa, Spain as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Thus far, the Development Area has formed five pillar industries?ioengineering and new medicine, information technology, optics-machinery-electronics integration, new materials and software development. In addition, the Development Area has grown to own "industrial aircraft carriers" composed of Xinwang Industrial Development Area, Beijing Medicine Valley and others set up by Top 500 in the world, multinational companies or domestically famous enterprises.
In accordance with the state industrial policies, the Development Area encourages the development of businesses such as hi-tech enterprises, export enterprises, foreign-funded enterprises, and businesses that are good in economic benefits, added value and technological density, but low in consumption of energy and water, land occupation.
